wave 2.0 - an endless pen game
Wave 2.0: The Endless Pen Challenge
Experience the pure, minimalist thrill of the wave in Wave 2.0, an endless arcade game built primarily with pen-drawn graphics. This game focuses on the exhilarating, float-and-dodge gameplay made famous in rhythm platformers, stripping it down to its core for a demanding test of rhythm and reflexes.
Simple Controls, Deep Challenge
The rule is straightforward: DON'T DIE. To navigate the flowing, tunnel-like courses, you control a wave icon. Press and hold Space, the Up Arrow, or your mouse button to ascend. Release to descend. Mastering this simple push-and-release mechanic is key to weaving through the ever-changing gauntlet of obstacles. For an extra strategic layer, pressing the Z key transforms your wave into a "mini" version, which can be crucial for slipping through particularly narrow gaps.
Three Tiers of Difficulty & Competition
Choose your challenge level:
- Blue Path: The easiest introduction to the wave mechanic.
- Green Path: A medium-difficulty track for practiced players.
- Red Path: The evil, ultimate test for masters of precision.
Each path is endless, generating obstacles continuously. The goal is to achieve the highest possible score (distance) and compete for a place on the leaderboards. The game maintains a Hall of Fame in its description, celebrating players who have set records, fostering a sense of community competition.
Technical Art & Audio
Wave 2.0 is a technical showcase. Nearly all visual elements—the twisting tunnels and barriers—are generated in real-time using pen drawing code, creating a unique, clean vector-style look. This is complemented by a driving electronic soundtrack featuring songs like "Cloud View" by Hanupo and "At the Speed of Light" by Dimrain47, the latter paying tribute to the original Wave game. Credits are given to RobTop Games for the wave concept and sound effects, and to the original "Wave Wave" for inspiration.
