What I like about this limitation is it forces you to really listen. When you have unlimited icons, you just keep adding until it becomes noise. Plus, when you're with friends, it becomes this shared creative experiment. Everyone starts with the same "ingredients" but ends up with completely different "dishes." And judging by the laughter, the worse it sounds, the better it is. There's something liberating about creating intentionally bad (but interesting) noise with friends.
