Sprunki Phase 13 Original: The One That Started It All (Sort Of)
Okay so Phase 13 original. If a loading icon was a composer, this would be its magnum opus. That sounds weird but stay with me here. If you've never played any Sprunki before (welcome! you're in for a treat), Phase 13 is... well, it's a thing.
Basically, you've got these little characters or icons or whatever you want to call them, and you drag them around to make sounds. Some beep, some boop, some go wub-wub. The goal? Make something that doesn't sound completely terrible. Or if you're me, make something that sounds intentionally terrible but in a funny way.
Here's my take on Phase 13 original: it feels like someone transcribed a code compilation into a melody. Like, if a computer was trying to sing but only knew programming languages. Which honestly is kind of charming in its own weird way.
My cat likes to watch the characters bounce. She's a fan of the orange one specifically. Don't ask me why - cats have their preferences. Maybe it moves differently, maybe it makes a sound at a frequency only cats can appreciate. Who knows.
So what's Phase 13 all about if you're completely new? It's one of the earlier "phase" versions that got popular in the Sprunki community. There's something about the color scheme and the sounds that just... work. Or don't work, depending on how bad you are at combining things (like me).
Random question that popped into my head: are there regular community challenges for these games? I mean, I've seen people on forums talking about making specific types of beats or recreating songs, but organized challenges? Not really. Which is maybe for the best because I'd probably lose anyway.
Another thing: how does it stand against premium competitors? I mean, it's free. That's the main thing. There are paid music-making apps out there that do way more, but they cost money and require actual skill. This costs nothing and requires zero skill. That's a win in my book.
If you want to check out other versions, there's also the Phase 13 definitive which is... basically the same but with some tweaks. Or just stick with the original if you're a purist.
The bottom line: Phase 13 original is like that old song you heard once and kind of remember. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's comfortable. Like digital comfort food. If comfort food was made of pixels and beeps.
Give it a try if you've got 5 minutes to kill. Worst case, you make some noise and close the tab. Best case, you accidentally make something that actually sounds good and feel weirdly proud of yourself. Both are valid outcomes.
