Getting Started: Save & Customize
Begin your project by remixing it. Save your level simply by saving the Scratch project. To add a personal audio touch, navigate to the backdrop and swap out the default music for your own tracks.
Dual-Mode Control System
The editor operates in two distinct modes, switched by pressing Z or M.
- Play Mode: Click for all in-game actions (jump, fly, etc.). Press I and O to toggle a 'no-clip' debugging option. Upon finishing a level, rate it by pressing keys 0 through 9.
- Editor Mode: A powerhouse for creation.
- Navigation: Cycle block categories with 1 or 3. Scroll through blocks in a category with 4 and 5.
- Tools: Select the eraser with 2. Click to place a selected block.
- Manipulation: Rotate placed objects with R. For fine-tuning, press R and E for the rotation/nudge menu, or R and O to reset to default.
- Advanced Features: Open the trigger menu (F), access settings (I/O), and enter the debug menu (O/P).
Feature-Rich Development History
Starting from version 1.0 which included a massive suite of items—blocks, portals, all character modes (cube, ship, ball, UFO, wave, robot, spider), orbs, triggers, and decorations—the editor has been consistently improved. Subsequent updates introduced a percentage-based progress bar, added numbers to it, implemented controls for mobile device editing, and fixed various bugs, including issues with portals. This makes it a versatile and continually refined tool for the Geometry Dash community.
