Sprunki Retake New Human: When the Blobs Get a Makeover
So my non-gamer friend saw me playing this and said "So you just... click things?" Yes. Exactly. That's the beauty of it! And with this Sprunki Retake New Human mod, the things you're clicking actually look like... people? Kinda?
Okay so first things first - what are the basic controls? You drag the human-looking icons onto the line thingies. They make sounds. You make more sounds. Eventually it sounds like something. Or doesn't. Both are valid outcomes. Once tried to get my mom into Sprunki. She said "It's just noise, honey." She's not wrong, but it's FUN noise!
The character designs are the real star here. Instead of abstract blobs or weird creatures, you get these slightly-off human silhouettes. They've got limbs! And heads! One looks like it's dancing badly, another looks like it's contemplating life choices. The audio peaks occasionally though - that crackle isn't part of the aesthetic, pretty sure that's just a glitch.
The audio panning is random in this one. Sometimes left, sometimes right. It's like the sounds can't decide where they want to be. Makes for an interesting listening experience if you're wearing headphones. I can feel my pulse in my temples keeping time with the beat, which is either cool or concerning, not sure which.
What music genres does this cover? Uhhh... "experimental human beatbox"? There's some hip-hop-ish rhythms, some electronic stuff, and what I can only describe as "elevator music if the elevator was haunted by friendly ghosts." It's good for making silly little tracks that sound like a robot family arguing at dinner.
This is PERFECT for when you've got friends over and want something dumb to do together. Everyone can take turns adding a sound, and since the characters look vaguely human, it's easier to get into than the abstract blob versions. "Make the dancing guy do the woosh sound!" etc.
I made a combo that sounded like a office worker having a breakdown set to a disco beat. Laughed way too hard at it. That's the goal, right? To make something that makes you smile or chuckle at its absurdity.
If you're new to the whole Sprunki thing, this human version is actually a pretty good starting point. The familiar character designs lower the "what am I even looking at" barrier, and the sounds are quirky without being overwhelming. Check out the original Retake too if you want to see where this all started.
My desk has a permanent indentation where my elbow rests during Sprunki sessions. This mod didn't help that situation. Worth it though.
