ADOFAI Tiles and Shape Tiles
Tiles and Shapes: When You've Played Too Many Rhythm Games
Alright, rhythm game vet here. Played everything from osu! to Beat Saber to whatever else. Thought I knew rhythm games. Then ADOFAI with its "one key" thing shows up. Like, okay, challenge accepted. But THIS level? "Tiles and Shape Tiles"? It's like a masterclass in tile mechanics. For real.
Playing with an arcade button I bought online btw. Feels different. More... tactile? Clicky? Not sure but it changes the experience. Makes you think about input differently. Strategic advantage or just preference? Both maybe.
What I'm really here for tho: understanding the DESIGN. Like, how do these tiles work together? What makes a good pattern vs a bad one? This level is perfect for analysis. You can see the thought process behind each tile placement. Or at least... I think you can.
Strategic planning mode: okay, so there's a straight tile, then a spin, then a shape change. Why? What's the rhythm teaching here? How does it flow? It's like solving a puzzle but the puzzle is... geometry and timing. My brain hurts but in a good way.
You know, the official designers deserve respect. Like, actual respect. They're brilliant. Also kinda evil but brilliant evil. The kind where you're suffering but also appreciating the artistry. Sadistic geniuses.
Weird flex but I've memorized some levels so well I can literally critique the song mixing based on where the taps are. Like, "that snare is too quiet for this pattern" or whatever. Is that normal? Probably not. Do I care? Not really.
Coming back to old hard levels and finding them... manageable? That's a trip. Like, "wait this destroyed me six months ago and now it's... fine?" Either I got better or my standards got lower. Maybe both.
My family still doesn't get the noise tho. "Thock-thock-thock all night long!" Yeah mom, it's called rhythm. Geometric precision. You wouldn't understand.
And the shared trauma bonds online? Real. You meet someone who also suffered through the same impossible map and it's instant connection. "You too?!" "Yeah bro, me too." Shared pain is real pain but like... communal?
Questions while strategizing: What niche does ADOFAI even FILL in the gaming market? Like, it's not quite rhythm, not quite puzzle, not quite... anything? Unique thing. And how does it affect stress? Like, some people find it relaxing (weirdos) and some find it stressful (normal people). Also how DOES the audio calibration work? And what if the game just... runs wrong speed? Like too fast or slow?
"Tiles and Shape Tiles" is for when you're past just playing and into analyzing. If you're a vet with a fancy controller and want to understand the "why" behind the patterns, this is your level. Or if you just like tiles. Tiles are cool too.
My arcade button is getting worn out. Worth it.
