Custom ADOFAI "Easy" Level: For When You're Just... Waiting
Okay so I'm downloading something. Big file. Gonna take like 20 minutes. What do I do while I wait? Scroll through social media? Nah. Play this "custom easy level" instead. I'm a vibe player - I care more about how it looks and sounds than getting perfect scores. So an easy level is perfect. Low stress, pretty patterns, good music.
But then I get this idea to record a clean gameplay video. Like, no mistakes. Something to share or just... keep. For the archives. Which is funny because I'm supposed to be chilling, not trying hard. But whatever.
Therapist voice engaged: Let's talk about managing frustration and setting realistic goals. First, what makes a level "fun"? Data shows it correlates with specific design patterns. Like, there's actual science behind what makes a map enjoyable vs frustrating.
But here's the thing: sometimes you're on attempt 297 at the same corner, and your finger presses but your brain is still on the last beat. Body moves faster than mind. That's when you need to step back. Breathe. Maybe the goal isn't to beat it right now.
That transcendent calm during a perfect run, right before you choke? That's the good stuff. That moment of "oh I'm actually doing it" followed immediately by "oh I'm not". Classic.
Getting a rhythm wrong for so long that the correct timing feels wrong? Brain rewires itself around failure. Have to unlearn the mistake before learning the right way.
And sometimes a level isn't hard. It's just mean. Designed to mess with you specifically. Personal vendetta from the creator.
So questions while we're being therapeutic: How do actual game designers view ADOFAI's mechanics? Like, do they see it as innovative or gimmicky? And at high level play, do players rely more on visual cues or audio cues? Like, do you watch or listen? And how much does sleep actually affect performance? Like, if I'm tired, should I even bother trying? Also how long does the main campaign take to finish anyway? Asking for time management purposes.
This custom easy level is good for what it is - something to play while waiting. The vibes are decent, the difficulty is appropriate (actually easy, not "community easy" which means impossible), and if you want to record a clean run, it's achievable without losing your mind. Good use of 20 minutes while that download finishes.
Therapist session over. Go hydrate or something.
