Turn 0ff Light
Turn 0ff Light: An Earth Hour Rhythm Game
Celebrate Earth Hour with “Turn 0ff Light,” an engaging and purpose-driven rhythm-clicker game created for the 2022 environmental awareness event. This project is more than just a game; it’s an interactive call to action, challenging players to “Start Thinking Of Earth Hour” by turning off as many virtual lights as possible.
Gameplay & Mechanics
The core mechanic is simple yet compelling: watch for illuminated light bulbs and tap them (or press Z, X, Enter, or Space) to switch them off. Be careful—accidentally clicking a bulb that’s already dark will break it and cost you a point. The challenge intensifies with special “brighter light bulbs” that grant bonus points but vanish quickly, testing your reflexes.
Development & Features
Developed over several updates (versions 1.3 through 1.4.2), the game has been refined with features like enhanced keyboard support for an osu!-like experience, a focused intro, and critical bug fixes for scoring. It incorporates atmospheric music from tracks like “Oceans Apart” and “Celebration.”
Technical Notes & Purpose
The in-game timer syncs with your local PC timezone for the Earth Hour countdown. As a cloud-based Scratch project, it requires a Scratcher account to save high scores globally. The developer, @manh_noob, based this on the original “Turn Off Light” by Luthor Nguyen.
