ADOFAI but Its Kirby
ADOFAI Kirby Edition: For When You Need to NOT Try Hard
Alright so it's like 11:30pm, right? Brain's fried from work or whatever, but I'm not quite ready to just... sleep. Need something to unwind with. Enter this "ADOFAI but Its Kirby" thing. The name alone got me - like, what does that even mean? Kirby vibes? Pink geometric nightmares? Sign me up.
I'm a vibe player through and through. If it looks cool and sounds good, I'm happy. Screw perfection, gimme that aesthetic experience. This level gets that. It's got that cutesy Kirby feel without being... too much? Like, it's still ADOFAI so you're gonna suffer, but it's suffering with style.
BUT THEN I HIT THE WALL. You know the one. That section where you're just like "nope, not happening, this is literally impossible for my current skill level". I was stuck for so long I started questioning my entire existence. Like, why am I even playing this? I should be sleeping. This is dumb.
And let me tell you, watching the replay after I FINALLY beat it? So cringe. You can see every sloppy, lucky hit. Every time I barely made it through on pure chance. Feels like I cheated even though I didn't.
Here's the thing though - sometimes a level isn't actually hard. It's just... mean. Like, the designer knew exactly what they were doing. They put that one pattern there specifically to mess with you. This Kirby one has a bit of that, but it's more playful mean than cruel mean, if that makes sense?
What's wild is coming back to a level that destroyed you months ago and finding it... manageable? Like, "oh this isn't so bad actually". Either the level got easier (it didn't) or you got better (maybe?). Progress is weird like that.
And okay, full disclosure: I tried the "wheelchair" mod once. You know, the visual assists that make everything clearer? Felt like cheating but also... such relief. Shame and freedom all at once. Don't judge me.
Anyway, random questions while we're here: How does ADOFAI handle different screens? Like, if I play on my laptop vs my friend's ultrawide monitor, does it mess with the timing? And how do those top players even approach the insane levels? Like, what's their process? Do they just... suffer more efficiently? And what will people say about ADOFAI in game design talks years from now? Will it be remembered as that "one key rhythm game" or something more?
Back to Kirby though - if you want something to chill with before bed that still has some challenge but doesn't require try-hard mode, this is decent. The vibes are good, the patterns are interesting without being cruel, and beating that wall feels satisfying without keeping you up all night. Mostly.
Just... maybe don't watch the replay. Trust me.
