Editor V2: Where Your MIDI Files Go to Get Confused
Muscle memory players unite! We don't need to see the notes - we FEEL them. Until we don't. Then we fail. Miserably.
Tracks that are 'playable' with sound off, using only visual pulses. The mark of great design. That's what I'm aiming for with this V2 editor. Can you make a level that works even when someone's headphones die? Challenge accepted.
Tracks that use the planet's own color change to indicate a shift in rhythm or role. This is next-level stuff. Like, the planet goes from blue to red and suddenly you're in a 180 BPM section. Your brain: 'Wait what?' Your finger: 'Too late, we're dead.'
The 'camera work' of a track—when and how it zooms, pans, or rotates the view. V2 editor lets you control this like you're directing a movie. A very stressful, geometric movie where the protagonist dies every 30 seconds.
So here's the deal: I'm a 'memory' player who relies heavily on muscle memory over sight-reading. I'm in a focused practice session targeting one specific difficult section (the one with the triple spin into immediate slowdown - you know the one). My goal? Improve accuracy and consistency, not just clears. I want to hit perfects, not just survives.
My analytical engineer voice says: 'Let's break down the exact timing of that pattern. Frame by frame. Millisecond by millisecond.' My fingers say: 'How about we just press randomly and hope for the best?'
The 'Triumph' visual theme (gold) works best with songs in a major key and a BPM between 150-170. This is not opinion; it's perception science. Or so the analysts say. I just think gold looks pretty when it's spinning really fast.
Things I Should Know But Don't:
What audio feedback options are available for hits/misses? There's a 'clink' for perfect, a 'thud' for miss, and the sound of your own sigh for 'almost but not quite.'
How does the game handle player frustration and motivation? Poorly. Very poorly. But that's part of the charm, right? RIGHT?
Using V2 editor is like... giving a caveman a spaceship. All these buttons. What does this slider do? Oh, it makes the background pulse at 120 BPM. Neat. What does THIS button do? Oh, it crashes the editor. Also neat, but less helpful.
Download this if you want to make levels that are actually good, not just hard. Or if you're tired of playing and want to try making others suffer for a change. It's the circle of ADOFAI life: suffer, create, make others suffer, repeat.
Pro tip: Save often. The editor crashes more than my car in GTA. And my car in GTA is usually on fire.
