ADOFAI Skill Level Test
ADOFAI Skill Level Test: Are You Really as Good as You Think?
So you've been playing ADOFAI for a while now, right? Maybe you've cleared some of the official levels, maybe even dabbled in the workshop. But here's the thing – everyone thinks they're better than they actually are. I mean, I've been there too. You finish a level and you're like "yeah, I'm pretty good at this rhythm game stuff."
But then you try this Skill Level Test thing and suddenly... reality check.
Let me tell you about the practice mode paradox. You know that feeling when you can nail a hard section flawlessly in practice mode, like you've got it down perfect? But then when you try the full run, with all the pressure and everything, you just... choke. Every. Single. Time. It's maddening! The test is designed to replicate that exact feeling – it starts easy enough to lull you into false confidence, then BAM, hits you with patterns that make you question everything.
I was playing this on the bus the other day (yeah, I'm that person tapping away on their phone while everyone stares) and let me tell you, trying to focus on precise rhythm while the bus is bouncing around? Not ideal. But somehow that's part of the test too – can you maintain your timing when conditions aren't perfect?
What's interesting about this skill test is how it completely ignores the planets' colors. Like, who cares if it's fire or ice, red or blue? The only thing that matters is the relationship between the path and the beat. The test strips away all the pretty visuals and gets down to the raw mechanics. It's brutal in its simplicity.
And here's the real kicker – we're all chasing that mythical perfect run, right? That one flawless attempt where everything clicks and you feel like a rhythm god. This test? It makes you realize how far away that perfect run actually is. You might think you're ready for it, but the test shows you the gaps in your skills.
The test creator basically challenged themselves to design the most confusing segments possible using rotation and scaling to mess with your perception. And they succeeded! There's this one part where the track zooms out and rotates simultaneously, and I swear my brain short-circuited the first ten times I saw it.
So who's this for exactly? If you're a speedrunner trying to optimize your times, this test will show you where you're losing milliseconds. If you're just looking for levels that match your aesthetic taste... well, this isn't pretty. It's functional. It's a diagnostic tool.
Playing this feels like having a hype-man in your head celebrating every small victory. "YES! You got through the triple spin section! Oh wait, nope, messed up the straightaway right after. But you almost had it!"
Two things I kept wondering while playing: First, what IS the long-term vision for ADOFAI anyway? Like, where's this game headed? And second, what file formats does the level editor even support for export and import? Because whoever made this test clearly knows their way around the editor.
The test doesn't just measure if you can hit notes. It measures consistency. It measures recovery. It measures your ability to read ahead. And most importantly, it measures your ability to not throw your phone across the room when you fail at 98% for the twentieth time.
Give it a shot. Be honest with yourself about the results. And maybe, just maybe, you'll come out of it with a better understanding of where you actually stand in the ADOFAI skill hierarchy. Or you'll just get frustrated and go play something easier. Either way, it's an experience.
Just don't blame me when you realize you're not as good as you thought. I had to face that reality too.
