ADOFAI WIP: When Your Brain Checks Out But Your Fingers Remember
Okay so I had like 15 minutes between meetings today and was like "hey let's try this WIP thing". WIP means Work In Progress right? So it's probably not finished? Or maybe it is? Who knows. The internet is weird.
As a memory player, I don't really... look at things. Like, my eyes glaze over and my fingers just do the thing. Muscle memory is wild like that. This WIP level actually works pretty well for that - the patterns repeat enough that after a few tries, my hands just... know.
But there's this one section that's been HAUNTING me. Like, I can't get the FC because I always mess up at the same spot. So I'm sitting here during my break trying to figure it out, and I'm like "okay brain, we can do this". Coach mode activated.
First thing you gotta learn with ADOFAI levels: what's decoration and what's actually important. Like, some stuff is just there to look pretty but doesn't affect the gameplay. Other stuff is the actual track geometry you need to follow. Takes practice to tell the difference.
And like... there's tracks made for vibing, and tracks made for challenge. Different purposes, you know? This WIP one feels kinda in between. Not too chill, not too insane. Just... right for a quick break.
Except when the visuals get too busy. Like, cool effects are cool until you literally can't see where you're supposed to go. Visual noise problem, man. It's real.
The best tracks are fair even when they're hard. Like, you fail and you know it's your fault, not some cheap trick. Worst ones feel arbitrary. Like "why did I die there??" This WIP one feels pretty fair so far.
And sometimes you get that feeling like you're on an endless runner? Like the track just loops seamlessly and you could go forever? That's a cool illusion when it works.
Random thoughts while we're here: How do other gaming communities see ADOFAI anyway? Like, do rhythm game people respect it or think it's weird? And how long does it take normal people to finish the official stuff? Took me ages but I'm slow. Also how do you balance practicing with not hurting your hands? And wait, does ADOFAI even have multiplayer? Like, could you play with a friend?
Anyway, WIP is solid for a quick break if you're a memory player. Gets your fingers moving without requiring too much brain power. Just maybe don't get too obsessed with that FC during work hours. Or do. I'm not your boss.
Back to the meeting. Probably.
