ADOFAI with trail: When Your Eyes Need Something to Follow
Okay so I'm back in flow state seeker mode - using ADOFAI as my weird interactive meditation thing. But today I'm also multitasking? Like, listening to a podcast about... I don't even know, some true crime thing. Half paying attention to both.
This "ADOFAI with trail" level caught my eye because... well, TRAILS. Visual trails. Like, the planet leaves a trail behind it as it moves. Sounds simple but it actually changes how you play. Gives your eyes something to follow, a visual history of where you've been.
I'm trying to develop my own personal style of playing, you know? Like, not just copying what other people do, but finding what works FOR ME. How I hold my hands, how I focus, what I look at. This trail thing might help with that.
AND OMG THAT MOMENT WHEN THE TRAIL SYNCED WITH THE MUSIC SWELL??? AAAAAAHHHH!!! SO GOOD!!! Sorry, fan gushing mode activated. But seriously, when visual effects line up perfectly with audio moments? Chefs kiss. Perfection.
This game is the perfect example of "simple control, deep mastery". One button. That's it. But the skill ceiling? Infinite. Elegant in its simplicity, brutal in its execution.
The perfect run though? That's like a mythical creature. Always chasing it, rarely catching it. You get close sometimes, but there's always that one mistake. That one early or late hit. The elusive 100%.
And of course the "one more try" loop. Hope (maybe this time!), effort (concentrate!), growth (okay I'm getting better... maybe?). That's the core of the game right there. That's what keeps you coming back.
So as a workshop consumer (which is what this angle is about I guess?), I'm looking at this level thinking: should I try making something like this? What makes a good workshop level anyway?
Questions that pop up while I'm half-listening to this podcast: What ARE "visual assist" mods exactly? And are they considered cheating? Like, if I use them, am I a bad player? Also how DO people collaborate on level creation? Like, do they just send files back and forth? Use cloud storage? What's the process?
ADOFAI with trail is actually pretty chill for multitasking. The trails give you something visually interesting to follow without requiring 100% of your attention. Good for flow state because you can kind of zone into the rhythm while your brain processes the podcast in the background. And developing your personal style with trails is fun - do you focus on the planet? The trail? The upcoming path? Find what works for you.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to rewind this podcast because I missed the part about the murderer because I was too busy gushing over a trail sync moment...
