EMOMOMO - ADOFAI Extra lvl Song
EMOMOMO: That Extra Level for When You're Supposed to Be Working
So I'm between meetings or whatever, got like 15 minutes to kill. Normally I'd scroll through nonsense on my phone, but today I'm like "hey let's try this EMOMOMO thing". It's an "extra level" which I guess means... bonus content? Community made? Doesn't matter, it's there.
As someone who sometimes makes content (okay fine, I stream occasionally), I'm always looking for stuff that's engaging but not gonna take three hours to complete. This fits the bill. Quick hit of rhythm game action, then back to whatever I'm supposed to be doing.
But it also makes me wanna make my own levels, you know? Like, I play these community things and think "I could do that". Or at least... I could try. The editor seems intimidating but maybe if I just... start small?
Analytical brain time: let's talk timing. The patterns in EMOMOMO are actually pretty clever. There's this one section where the visual cue is slightly off from the audio cue, but if you listen to the music instead of watching, it clicks. Literally.
Progress in this game is so weird though. I got a new high score yesterday... by ONE point. Like, seriously? One point? But hey, progress is progress I guess. Gotta celebrate the small wins.
And you know what's funny? When your body gets the rhythm before your brain does. Like, my foot is tapping the BPM perfectly but my finger is still messing up. Get it together, hand!
Finishing a level with a bunch of misses feels so... empty. Like, "yay I did it" but also "wow I actually kinda sucked at that". False victory. The real challenge is going back and doing it clean. Which I probably won't because I have actual work to do.
Ever play a level so much that the wrong timing starts feeling right? Like, you've messed up a section so many times that when you finally get it correct, it feels... off? Brain is weird.
And if the level uses a song you actually love? Ugh. Ruins it. Now every time you hear that song you're gonna think about that one spin section you keep missing. Gift and a curse.
So questions while we're being analytical: How does the combo system actually work? Like, if I break combo does it tank my score completely or just... reduce it? And what makes for good level design for learning? Like, what should I keep in mind if I ever try to make my own? Also what computer specs do I actually need for ADOFAI to run smooth? And how long do people normally take to finish the official stuff anyway?
EMOMOMO is solid for a quick break. Doesn't overstay its welcome, has interesting patterns, and might inspire you to try creating something yourself. Or at least it'll kill 15 minutes better than staring at your phone.
Back to work I guess. Or... one more try?
