FNF- Confronting Yourself
FNF: Confronting Yourself... and a Rebuilt Mod
Here we have another FNF mod ported over to the same customizable engine: "FNF- Confronting Yourself". This one‘s based on the original mod by a whole crew—RickyMania22, Saster, Jota_MR, and others—but there‘s a catch. The developer‘s notes start with a disclaimer: "I didn't have anything to base it off of because they updated the song so TLDR this is bad." That‘s some brutal honesty right there. It sounds like the original "Confronting Yourself" track got an update after this version was made, leaving this mod as a sort of snapshot or recreation that might feel off compared to the newest version. But hey, it exists, and it comes with the same suite of features as the other cabalex-engine mods.
That means you‘re getting the now-familiar set of toggles: Ghost Tapping, Circle Arrows, Osu Tick, and BF swaps, with the same promise of future harder toggles. Under the hood, it‘s gone through the same rigorous update cycle as the Tree duck week mod. We‘re talking about the removal of unnecessary instrumentals from the hold note handler, fixes for character loading bugs, the HP drain system replacing death match, a more accurate accuracy counter, recalibration track, and the pile of bug fixes from March 2022. The same notes about being unoptimized and the death note compatibility fixes from May 2022 are here too. So while the charting might be based on an older version of the song, the engine and features are up-to-date with the developer‘s other work.
Controls and gameplay remain identical to the other mods: "Default controls are WASD/arrow keys; can be configured in the options menu." The charmingly simple description is back: "It's basically like DDR, press arrow when arrow over other arrow. And uhhh don't die." And the link to the modding guide is there for tinkerers.
Playing this mod is like that moment on your 50th attempt at a jump section, your cursor finally moves with the confidence you've only seen in replays—except here, it's about nailing a chart that‘s a bit of a historical artifact. It‘s the specific rage of failing because of a technical issue (lag spike, driver crash) not lack of skill, though hopefully those bugs are fixed. And it’s that bittersweet feeling when a player you looked up to retires; this mod is a tribute to a previous version of a song that itself has moved on. It‘s also the moment you realize you've memorized the exact pixel positions of jumps in your favorite farm map, but applied to a different game entirely.
This might appeal to the "history buff" who knows about old mappers, players, and dramas—the person interested in different versions of mods. You could be playing this as warm-up before a tournament match in another game, just to get your fingers moving. Your goal might be to set a new top play (personal pp record) or, in FNF terms, a new high score. Or maybe you‘re dealing with rank anxiety elsewhere and just want a stress-free rhythm game with no ranking attached. For a challenge, why not play with inverted screen colors? That‘ll really make you confront yourself.
This one raises questions like: How does ranking work in multiplayer? (Not applicable here, but makes you think about competition). And, How do I fix audio delay/desync? (A crucial issue for any rhythm game, and this mod thankfully has a calibration track!).
