Osu Scratch V5: A Community-Driven Rhythm Game in Development

Osu Scratch V5 is a fan-made rhythm game project built within the Scratch platform, directly inspired by the popular osu! game created by Dean "peppy" Herbert. Currently in an active development phase, this version introduces several community-focused features. Players can directly influence the game's song list by commenting with suggestions for tracks and artists, fostering a collaborative development environment.

Customization and Gameplay

A core feature is full skin customization support. Users can create and share their own visual styles by remixing the project and modifying game assets like hit circles, cursors, welcome screens, and hit sounds, naming their creation "osu!scratch (skin name)". The gameplay involves hitting on-screen circles to the rhythm using either mouse clicks or the D and F keys. The developer has indicated that custom key bindings are a planned future enhancement.

Project Status and Notes

As an evolving project, it's important to note its development status. Updates have included the initial release (Ver. 1.0) on April 24, 2020, the addition of skins (Ver. 1.1) on May 30, 2020, and ongoing work for Ver. 1.2. Players should be aware that some content, like "The Only Map," might have temporary issues while under active refinement. For the full, official osu! experience, a direct link to download the original osu! client is provided.

This Scratch adaptation, with contributions acknowledged to @tomergan for hit circle coding, serves as an accessible, browser-based entry point into the world of circle-clicking rhythm games, blending core mechanics with community-driven content creation.
