scratch mania Rhythm Game v0.6
scratch mania: When Programming Meets Rhythm
Okay so you spend more time in the editor than actually playing games. I get it. There's something magical about creating the perfect map, right? Thanks to @OliBomby for inspiring this whole thing, because scratch mania is basically a love letter to mapping during community events.
Here's the wild part: USE QWOP FOR THE KEYS. No, seriously. QWOP. I know I'm bad at explaining, but that's what it says! Also, click the scratch cat face to start. Because of course you click a cat face. This is Scratch, after all.
MAPPING TUTORIAL: Want to make your own map? Check https://youtu.be/QSNvCZRdOrg or just go into the project - there are notes there to help. All maps are mapped by the creator, who apologizes for how short "dark sheep" is because they "was getting bored of mapping it." Relatable.
Developing "instinct" for patterns—knowing where to go without conscious thought? That's what this game teaches you. When you're creating and submitting your first beatmap (which you totally should do), you start to see rhythm differently. The transferable skills to real life: rhythm, hand-eye coordination, focus. It's not just about gaming anymore.
Speaking of only playing maps from one specific mapper... well, in this case, you are that mapper! The creator says they're "PROBABLY GONNA REVAMP THIS IF I FEEL LIKE IT (because its horrible)" and honestly? Mood. Why does this project have 8000 views please its horrible. The self-awareness is beautiful.
When a previously impossible skill becomes routine through gradual exposure - that's the v0.6 update in a nutshell. Arrow key support? Added. FC variable? Yep. Upscroll/downscroll so you can pick your scrolling option? Check. Note skins? Hit sound effect? All there. The mental models for different skills: aim as geometry, streaming as rhythm, reading as pattern recognition... scratch mania makes you think about all of it.
Changelog tells a story: v0.1 release, v0.2 added raining tacos song (because why not), v0.3 options, v0.4 bug fixes and instructions for making your own map, v0.5 arrow keys and FC variable, v0.6 all the scrolling and skin options. It's growth. It's development.
Developing "soft skills": tournament mentality, pressure management, consistency. You get that here too. Even though the creator might "make a FNF Game btw so stay tuned." Song plans include BLANKFIELD - Goodbye. Make sure to comment any songs you want added!
Btw, if you are bored that there is only 1 song, check out scratch! mania +. someone else made it and its in the remixes tab. New songs and an options menu coming soon! Maybe.
So when do you stop farming pp and start skill-building? With scratch mania, you're doing both. You're building the skills to create, which is a whole different kind of farming. And honestly? It's probably more satisfying than any leaderboard rank.
Just... maybe don't ask why it uses QWOP controls. Some mysteries are better left unsolved.
