3-EX ADOFAI: When Geometry Decides to Fight Back
Okay so I was on the bus yesterday, right? Stuck in traffic for what felt like forever. Phone battery at 12%, shoulda been conserving it but nope - opened up Gosprunki and saw this thing called "3-EX ADOFAI". Thought, "Hey, looks geometric, might be a chill time-killer".
BIG mistake.
See, here's the thing about community maps like this: they look all innocent with their pretty shapes and colors. Like that whole "visual anchoring" thing people talk about? Yeah, this map laughs at your anchoring attempts. It's like trying to follow a specific raindrop in a downpour while someone's spinning you in circles.
First attempt: immediate fail at the third tile. Second attempt: made it to maybe the... sixth? Lost count. The rhythm feels... off. Not wrong, just off. Like it's following some internal logic that my brain hasn't decoded yet.
You know that feeling when you show a friend an "easy" official level and they're like "Are you sure this is meant for humans?" That's EXACTLY what this feels like, except I'm the friend this time. The geometry here isn't just pretty - it's actively deceptive. Angles that look like they should be hit on the beat actually need like a 30ms delay or something. Maddening.
And the sound of your own keypress becomes part of the song's percussion. A metronome of suffering. Tap-tap-tap-FAIL. Tap-tap... wait was that early? Probably. The warm-up period where your brain and hands remember how to talk takes about 20 attempts with this one.
So here I am, trying to understand level design principles by analyzing this chart, and it's like... okay, what's the mapper thinking here? Why put a sudden 45-degree turn RIGHT after a straight section that lulls you into a false sense of security? That's just mean.
Couple things I'm still figuring out:
What's the ideal audio latency setting for responsive gameplay? Like, my phone headphones have this weird delay that makes everything feel slightly underwater.
And how does the combo system work? Does breaking combo affect scoring? Cause I break combo like... constantly. It's basically my signature move at this point.
Honestly though? There's something addictive about it. The geometry is genuinely beautiful in a "I-want-to-throw-my-phone-but-also-stare-at-this" way. The colors shift in these subtle gradients that actually help with timing once you stop panicking.
Would I recommend it? To a complete newbie? Absolutely not. To someone who thinks they've got ADOFAI figured out? Oh please, give this a go and report back. Bring snacks. You'll be here a while.
