ADOFAI 4ball: When Four Planets is Three Too Many
So we're at this gathering right? Friends over, snacks out, someone suggests playing games. Normally we'd do like Jackbox or whatever but someone found this "4ball" ADOFAI thing. Four planets? Seriously? I can barely handle one.
I'm a vibe player through and through. If it looks cool and sounds good, I'm happy. Screw perfect scores, gimme that aesthetic experience. And this... well, it's definitely an experience. Chaotic but in a fun way?
We start taking turns. "You try it!" "No you try it!" Everyone failing spectacularly. Laughing, groaning, the whole thing. And of course there's that one friend who's slightly better than everyone else and keeps getting further, making the rest of us look bad.
But then I hit THE WALL. You know the one. That section where it's just... nope. Not happening. Four planets doing completely different things while the music does something else entirely. My brain short-circuits.
Let me tell you, I feel your pain. I've been destroyed by that same section. Multiple times. In front of people. It's humiliating but also... bonding? Shared suffering brings people together or whatever.
The five stages of being stuck are so real: First you're focused. Really concentrating. Then frustrated. Then angry (maybe threw a chip). Then numb (just pressing buttons without hope). Then... enlightenment? For like two seconds before you mess up again and repeat the cycle.
When someone FINALLY clears it though? The adrenaline shakes! Hands vibrating, heart pounding. Feels like you just won the Olympics even though you just pressed spacebar at the right times.
Time distortion is wild too. A level that's like 3 minutes feels like 30 seconds when you're in the zone. Or like 30 hours when you're stuck. No in-between.
And you start doing weird body movements without realizing. Toe tapping, head nodding, full-on rocking in your chair. Autopilot takes over and you become a human metronome.
Gotta do the wrist check though. Rotate 'em, make sure they're not permanently damaged from all the tapping. Probably fine. Maybe.
Random thoughts while recovering: How DOES ADOFAI handle different screens anyway? Like if we're playing on a laptop vs a big monitor? And how do those top players even approach learning the insane levels? Like what's their process? And what will people say about ADOFAI in game design talks years from now? Also what accessibility options are there for people who need visual help? Asking for a friend who definitely needs help.
4ball is chaos but fun chaos. Perfect for when you have people over and want something different. Just... maybe have some ice packs ready for the wrists. And ego.
