Adofai but bad
Adofai but bad: Embracing the Jank
So like, I'm working on this collab project with a couple friends, right? We're trying to make this multi-creator level thing, but my setup is... not ideal. Old laptop, mushy keyboard, trackpad that sometimes decides to take a vacation mid-game. Enter "Adofai but bad". The name alone speaks to me.
As someone who collaborates on projects, I'm always looking for levels that match a certain... vibe. An aesthetic. Not just difficulty, but feel. This one? It's got that "intentionally jank" aesthetic down pat. Like, it knows it's not perfect and it doesn't care. Refreshing, honestly.
Let me share some wisdom, young padawan. The flow state in this game... it's elusive. Especially on bad hardware. You're fighting the controls as much as the level. But when you find it? When everything clicks despite the mushy keys? That's real mastery.
You know what's funny though? The practice mode paradox. I can nail a section perfectly in isolation. Like, ten times in a row, no problem. Then I try the full run? Immediate fail. Every. Single. Time. Why does my brain do that?
Some tracks are actually better the second time through. Once you know the gimmick, the trick, the "aha" moment the creator built in. First play is confusion, second play is appreciation. This level has a bit of that.
And I love when a key change isn't just audio. When the whole track shifts color and style to match. Visual music. That's the good stuff right there.
Palette cleansers are underrated too. Those simple, pretty, forgiving sections between the brutal parts. Let's you breathe. Reset. This level could use more of those, honestly.
So while we're being philosophical... what are the future possibilities for community creations? Like, where can this go? And what are the actual limits for custom levels? Like, technical constraints? Also, what engine was ADOFAI even made in? Unity? Something custom?
"Adofai but bad" is for those of us with less-than-ideal setups who still want to create and appreciate. It's janky, it's imperfect, it's... honest. And sometimes that's exactly what you need.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go clean my laptop keyboard. Again.
