ADOFAI Worlds 1-13 MODDED: Because Vanilla Was Too Easy Apparently
Had one of those days yesterday. You know the type - everything's just slightly irritating, caffeine isn't helping, and you need to just... channel that energy somewhere. So I thought, "Hey, I'm a rhythm game vet, I've beaten the official ADOFAI stuff, let's try this MODDED version".
Worst. Decision. Ever.
Or best? I can't decide. It's like meeting an old friend who's been training with Navy SEALs while you were doing yoga. Familiar, but suddenly capable of destroying you in ways you didn't think possible.
The thing with modded official levels is they play with your muscle memory. You go into World 2 thinking "Oh I know this one", and then BAM - the track does this weird sideways shift that wasn't there before. Your brain short-circuits. Muscle memory says "tap now", eyes say "wait what", and your finger is just hovering there like an idiot.
I wanted to record a clean gameplay video for sharing. Ha. That's funny. After attempt #47 on MODDED World 4, I had maybe... 12 seconds of decent footage? The rest is just me failing in increasingly creative ways.
The tracks here feel like they're having a panic attack on a rollercoaster they designed. One minute you're cruising along a straightaway, the next you're in a twirling double helix that looks gorgeous but murders your sense of direction. And the moment a track's complex pattern finally "clicks" in your brain and becomes simple feels like unlocking a secret level of consciousness.
Background effects are either crucial rhythm cues or distractions placed by a cruel god. I can't tell which yet. Probably both. Tracks that are beautiful screensavers when paused, and instruments of torture when played. That's the modded experience in a nutshell.
Couple things I'm still trying to wrap my head around:
What music genres are represented in ADOFAI's soundtrack? Like, are these the same songs but remixed? Or completely different tracks?
How does the game handle variable BPM/time signature changes? Cause some of these mods have tempo shifts that feel... illegal. Like, should rhythm games be allowed to do that?
And what are the most important skills to develop as a new player? Cause whatever those are, they don't apply here. This is advanced-level masochism disguised as a rhythm game.
The post-clear adrenaline shakes. Your hands vibrate slightly for minutes afterward. I got that from just REACHING the halfway point of MODDED World 7. Didn't even clear it. Just got to a checkpoint and felt like I'd run a marathon.
Would I recommend Worlds 1-13 MODDED? To a fellow veteran with something to prove? Absolutely. To someone just starting out? Please, for your sanity, play the original first. This thing doesn't just have a learning curve - it has learning cliffs with surprise trapdoors.
